The Gymkhana Club
The Rangoon Gymkhana Club on Halpin Road was one of the city's two premier social clubs (the other being the Pegu Club) until it was damaged during the war and then closed down in the 1950s. In January 1927 the Rangoon Gymkhana played its only first-class cricket match ever against the Marlyebone Cricket Club. Its restaurant was frequented by George Orwell. The swimming pool has been filled in but the structure is still there, now part of the Yangon Children's Hospital.
